Bad Boy Timz is The Hottest Kid on The Block
Timz is fast approaching stardom. His greatest feature lies in his ability to weave catchy hooks and rhythmic melodies. He is about to explode in no time.
I’ve been hearing about Timz before I listened to his music. The greatest philosophers philosophized that it is imperative that you allow music find you and not vice versa. Maybe they didn’t exactly put it like that, but you get my drive. Nothing beats music finding you and when it does, it’s the kind that you embrace openheartedly because it’s unbelievably good. You create an unbreakable bond with such music and you automatically accord respect to the artist. That was me when his music found me.
The first thing anyone should know about Bad Boy Timz is that he is a hustler. Now, that’s something you should be able to say about any hardworking person right? Well, I guess so. Timz is a hustler in the sense that his approach toward his music career is from a place of hunger and an unquenchable urge to secure the bag. He is hungry and the hunger you can feel as long as you’re in the same room with him. He is constantly working, looking for the next banger that’ll shake the pillars of the Nigerian market and beyond.
The first time I met Timz was at his apartment on the island. As usual, I followed one of my favorite people to a recording session. One thing that immediately got my attention was the fact that the process of making music comes very natural to him. If you listen close enough, it is apparent in his music. He crafts melodies as a blacksmith would a sword. Okay. The hype don do.
What’s up with Timz gan gan?
What’s Timz’s story exactly? What makes him the kind of artist he is? The Computer Engineering graduate from Bells University didn’t just become an overnight sensation. There is a story that ought to be told.
When Timz dropped his eponymous EP in 2019, a six-track EP (Timz), his fate was uncertain. Although he was already signed to Anonymous Music, he was miles away from mainstream. It was his debut project but he was lucky to have worked with the likes of Ozedikus. Timz proved to anyone who cared to give a listening ear that he is capable of great songwriting and exceptional melodies. Songs like Number One, Folashade, Don’t Go stand out.
The EP didn’t do so much but it helped Timz earn a loyal following. Wherever he performed, there was always a crowd of people, no matter how small, cheering him on. It was a start. It meant something.
HOW DID TIMZ START HIS JOURNEY?
The young man named Oloruntimilehin Olorunyomi became familiar with the concept of making music from a young age. That’s what happens when you join the choir at an early stage of your life. You begin nurturing your talent, consciously or not. In a couple of years, you possess enough firepower to make an attempt at becoming a musician.
Gaining admission into the university, Timz decided to pursue his interest in music professionally. He began posting freestyle videos on social media which generated a lot of attention. When one of his freestyle videos went viral on Twitter, it gave his parents enough reason to show support to his fledgling music career. They started paying for his studio sessions.

Signing to Anonymous Music & Dropping Timz EP…
Following the virality of his freestyle videos, Timz got an offer and after consulting his parents, he signed to Anonymous Music some time in early 2019. His debut EP featured Barry Jhay and Zlatan Ibile. He dropped the project in August 2019, an upcoming act with massive potential ready to take on the world.
Before dropping the EP, he dropped his first official single Check And Balance together with the music video. It was rather conspicuous from the video that Timz had the makings of a performer.
The EP might not have made the most impact but it would be wrong to deny that it put Timz on a pedestal. It created a bond between Timz and the following that the EP helped him muster. The first time I heard the EP, I didn’t need much convincing to see the great potential in the young Fela. There’s a distinctness to the way he writes his songs, his ad-libs, the backups. And you can always tell his voice apart. On songs like Number One, Don’t Go, Folashade, he’s a passionate lover boy. He sings “The other girls want nothing but money. Girl with you I’m building a family.” On Hustle with Zlatan, he highlights the importance of working hard so you can earn a living.
Late 2019, sometime in November, Timz dropped a single Complete Me. The song was from one of his freestyle videos that went viral earlier in the year. Tunde Ednut posted the freestyle video on his Instagram page and it had more than 7000 comments. Working with the producer S’Bling, Timz dropped Complete Me. He also dropped the music video for the song in December and it has since garnered more than 250k views.
TIMZ GETTING HIS BIG BREAK WITH MJ
When MJ dropped, it was a subtle announcement from Timz to his fans that he was taking his artistry to an unprecedented level. The instrumental of the song sounded like it had a soul. It spoke to you, the listener, even before Timz uttered a word. It was an instant hit song and in no time the song made its way to mainstream.
Some weeks before the song dropped, Bad Boy Timz posted a short video of him in the studio with the song playing in the background. People were so quick to ask when the song would be dropping. It’s no wonder that the song made it to various charts immediately after its release. We were in a pandemic, unsure of when things would go back to normal, and here was Timz with a hit song in his hands.
Big shout-out to the producer of MJ, Semzii. He’s one of the youngest in the game at the moment and I really believe he is going to become a fiend in music production very soon.
MJ brought Timz to limelight. A few weeks later, a snippet of Mayorkun jumping on the remix went viral. It came as a surprise to many when Timz dropped two different remixes of MJ; one with Mayorkun and another one with Teni. It was evidently a strategy to tap into the fan base of both artists respectively. And boy, did it work so well.
A NEW ERA FOR YOUNG FELA: TIMZ CRACKING THE CODE BEHIND MAKING HITS
There was a tinge of excitement in my veins when I heard Timz was going to feature on Olamide’s album. I couldn’t stop imagining what a Timz and Olamide song would sound like. Loading is a smash. On Carpe Diem, it is undoubtedly the banger out of all the songs. Timz sounded so confident on Loading, punching every single line in the hook with braggadocio. It’s almost like he’s trying to show the instrumental who the boss is.
“Loading din din loading. O sun o go. O ji o gba ope” - Bad Boy Timz, educating the youth on the concept of missing out on opportunities as a result of hibernating. He furthers his theory, saying that it is those who rise from their slumber that receive blessings.
A little birdie informed me that Timz already recorded Loading before Baddo happened upon it. She even said Timz gave the king of the streets more than one song - one that is possibly a sweeter tune than Loading. Currently, on the streets, only a few songs can stand alongside Loading. I dare say it is one of the hottest records of the year.
What A Year Timz Has Had
2020 has actually been good to a couple of artists. Timz sits neatly on the list. It wouldn’t have been a stretch to suppose that the MJ crooner would end the year with Loading. However, Timz (and his team ever so bold) released another single Have Fun. Ah. Another banger? But can it take on Loading?
I don’t know what the plan was but Have Fun is doing its own numbers. It surely isn’t as big a hit like Loading. Though it is tailored for the dance floor. Timz does what he seemingly does best: make bangers.
Mr man, all this yarns, how far?
Generally, the point of this article is that Bad Boy Timz is hot in the industry as it is. This would have been very glaring if Corona didn’t ruin it all. He would have been performing at various shows, back to back. Regardless, he is in the conversation and is expected to rack in some awards, surfing on his way to stardom.
